Obama Says Palin's Family Off-Limits

"Let me be as clear as possible," Obama said. "I think people's families are off-limits, and people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president."

Obama said reporters should "back off these kinds of stories" and noted that he was born to an 18-year-old mother.

"How a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn't be the topic of our politics, and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that's off-limits
."

Good for Obama. I can't help but wonder how many of his trolls will trash the Palin family anyway, even after their leader has made it clear that they are out of bounds.

Senator Obama can lay off the Palin Family but this woman could be President and Americans have a right to know. Now with her Republican Family Values our kids will be blessed by the Government and the Church for having sex and getting pregnant with shot gun weddings. What kind of Mother knows her daughter is having sex and does nothing to protect her from getting pregnant. Birth control pills would have helped. Now it's all in the math and with Sarah protesting to much. We know Bristol is having her second child and the first is Trig. Yes Sarah protected her daughter and made sure her grandson Trig had the best medical insurance coverage as he's listed as her child. Now this Mother never talked or help her daughter after one pregnancy and now look there's another one. The Republican Christian Church based condones this action so look for others to follow. Sarah needs a woman to raise her kids quickly so her other daughters don't do the same thing. Sarah's husband is dealing with his drinking problems so he's not much help. I've read many trying to make this story light but it's sad and it shows this Family is not helping their children only looking out for themselves.

Although I have concerns on how effectively Palin could help her daughter, care for her newborn who has down syndrome, and be an effective VP (and this is if I wasn't voting for Barack-Bidden!), I agree with Barack that families (esp children of families) are off-limits.

It was also good to remind us that his mom was 18 yrs old when she had him, but he didn't the media anything to attack Palin. Continues to be a classy guy...

It's just too bad that the liberal media, pundits, and blogs can't show the same class. They've been vicious and unrelenting about this.

And Jackie, what frickin' world do you live in? My daughter got pregnant at 17. We preached abstinence, informed her of birth control options if she was stupid enough to ignore us....and still she got pregnant. Even when a parent does everything possible (short of locking their child up), things happen. Hats off to this family for not scraping the child out of her womb like so many other families do.

And as for the drinking allegation, where do you get that from? Your post is as yellow as most of the other liberal postings I've read over the last few days. Do you Dems have any morals or conscience at all?

Barrack Obama's reaction to the question about Governor Palin's daughter showed consistency and a ton of class! He is absolutely right in saying families and especially kids are off limits. Its not a political issue, its not relevant in the least bit to the question of whether Governor Palin is capable of being the Vice President. I have been watching CNN on and off all day and evening and I am outraged at their over the top coverage on this non-issue. I first noticed it with Wolf Blitzer and John King this afternoon. Despite Barrack Obama's own denouncing of such reporting, they would not stop talking about it. Wolf Blitzer kept repeating it over and over. One would be hard pressed to find a more partisan human on the planet than James Carville, and even he said he agreed with the Republican panelists he appeared with. I'm sure James Carville considers it beneath himself to try to exploit the Governors family situation for political gain. Then I turned on the TV again and watched Larry King refusing to let this non-issue go, he too kept saying it over and over. Once again I was disgusted by CNN's vigor for this irrelevant story. Then a few minutes ago I tune in again only to here Anderson Cooper railing on this crap non-stop as well. I have never sent an email to a news site, this evening I sent two emails to CNN. I have never posted to a blog in my life, yet I am posting to this blog because I think CNN's non-stop coverage of this deeply personal family issue is disgusting!!! What has become completely clear to me is that the liberal media is scared to death of Sarah Palin. Otherwise they wouldnt be trying to hang on for dear life to this non-issue. Finally, as for airjackie's post above, REALLY AIRJACKIE, REALLY????? Based your post, airjackass is more appropriate, please change that asap.

"With time running out — and as Mr. McCain discarded two safer choices, Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, as too predictable — he turned to Ms. Palin. He had his first face-to-face interview with her on Thursday and offered her the job moments later. Advisers to Mr. Pawlenty and another of the finalists on Mr. McCain's list described an intensive vetting process for those candidates that lasted one to two months.

"They didn't seriously consider her until four or five days from the time she was picked, before she was asked, maybe the Thursday or Friday before," said a Republican close to the campaign. "This was really kind of rushed at the end, because John didn't get what he wanted. He wanted to do Joe or Ridge."

You really want this guy in the White House? He might rush to make a decision without considering, you know, any information or intelligence whatsoever... ready to lead? PFFFFT! Ready to put politics as usual aside, put country first and reach across the aisle to get things. done? LOL. His choice of VP had nothing to do with putting country first and everything to do with trying to grab headlines... it doesn't get more pathetic then that, my friend ;)

In politics, families should be off limits. Unless. . . . . . they choose to start personally campaigning for the candidate. Then they become part of the political process.
